The Blue Donkey!

Thats the name we decided to call our Vanagon. I don't know why really, it just kinda made sense.
It's an 86 syncro (4 wheel drive) with an awning and a pop-top and bed 'upstairs'. Aftermarket bumpers and a 2" lift springs. Aside from that it's a normal 7 passenger vanagon.
I found it on Craigslist in Morro Bay California, and after some communication with the owner Cara and I flew there to check it out. Traffic in SoCal is horrendous! We drove to Morro Bay in a rental from LA, took about 6-7 hours. We liked the van so we bought it and headed out for a few days camping in our new 'mobile home'.

It has this nifty tire rack and shelf on the back to carry stuff.

It's pretty dang slow, but we enjoyed cruising around in it. The middle seat is removed and the rear folds flat to create a bed with a cushion in the rear cargo area. The first night we couldn't find any decent spots to camp so we just threw the curtains up and slept on the side of a neighborhood street. We had bought some sheets and a blanket and were plenty cozy.

Since we flew in from Hawaii with no camping gear, we spent the next few days shopping. We spent close to $2000 buying a stove, cookware, table, chairs, tools and 999 other random accessories to make us more comfortable. Next we need to build some storage inside. The van is in storage and we're back in Hawaii, we're not planning on seeing it again until mid november, when we start our roadtrip.
