Our first day alone we Managed to travel around Mexico to a town called Cuernavaca. We reached the RV park shortly after dark, but not before experiencing the finest drivers Mexico had to offer. The roads had deteriorated to essentially bumpy dirt roads where a major 6 lane divided highway used to be, there was something of a traffic jam due to an accident, and the traffic was total Chaos. If you weren't willing to be assertive with your driving you'd never get anywhere, so I pushed the Donkey on through the mess. Surprisingly, we made it through unscathed, though there was alot of horn blowing and unidentifiable gestures.

After asking for directions at a Pemex, we found the RV Park. It was in what appeared to be a terrible neighborhood, but it was gated and appeared secure. And closed.
It had obviously not been open for years, and there was a 'Se Rento' (for rent) sign in the window. Drat. Now it's dark and we need to find someplace to camp, boondocking in this neighborhood is out of the question.

The next place in our guidebook is about 30 miles away. OK, we gotta go somewhere. Thankfully, the road ahead is freshly paved, and we quickly exit the congested rush hour streets of Cuernavaca.

We find the Camping area and manage to communicate our wishes. The guy at the gate manages to produce another employee that speaks pretty decent English, takes out Pesos and waves us on. We wind up camping in a parking lot next to a tent camping area in what was once the swimming complex for the summer Olympic games in 1968. It was pretty cool, but like almost everything in Mexico, run down and in various states of disrepair. We talked about going for a swim in the morning and checking it out, but we were rolling by 8am and nothing was open until 9. We couldn't even find a functioning bathroom. Oh well. No pictures, sorry.

All right! We found a toll road! Time to make some progress! We drove over 300 miles the next day. Found a campground behind a Pemex, overpriced and poor facilities but it's dark and theres nothing else around. Lots of bugs tonight, we try out a few screen contraptions so we can sleep with the windows open, it works out OK but we're still pretty hot.

The next day we hit the road early, find our first Ruins nearby. It's called La Venta, and is supposedly the oldest pyramid type structure in America. We check out the site and some replica sculptures, it's pretty neat. We leave by 10am and are already sweating. This is the Mexico we were expecting.

Next we find another Ruins Called Comalcalo. This ones really cool, several large structures. We also saw some Huge lizards, but they ducked into their burrows before I was able to sneak off a pic.

Ruins are really cool!

We ended the day early camping at a swiming park near the town of Villahermosa. They closed at 6pm, leaving us alone! We went skinny dipping after a few margarittas, we were sneaking around like little kids! haha....
